Why are Jews Named After Judah? – World Mizrachi

 

 

The term for Jews comes from the name Judah, or Yehuda – Yaakov’s 4th son. (In Hebrew, too – Yehudim)

Yehuda was destined to receive the monarchy, culminating in the Davidic dynasty.

Why, then, are we named after Judah?

In this week’s Parasha of Vayechi, Yaakov gives Yehuda his blessing saying “Yehuda, your brothers will admit to you” – what exactly does this mean?
