Yardena Cope-Joseph is the assistant legal adviser in the Department of Jewish Law at the Israeli Ministry of Justice. She specializes in bioethics, ART and personal status and has taught Talmud, Jewish law, bioethics and Hassidut at Matan, Tal Nursing College, Lander College and high schools and lectured internationally for over 25 years. Founder and former director of the Advanced Talmud Institute and Daf Yomi at Matan, Jerusalem, Cope-Joseph also served as director of the Assistance Center at Itim, giving counsel and advocating before Rabbinic courts and state institutions on marriage, personal status, conversion, burial, proving Jewishness, ART, surrogacy and halakhic prenuptials.
 
Cope-Joseph holds a degree in law from Hebrew University and a Masters degree from Tel Aviv and Northwestern Universities. She is a member of the Israeli bar and a Nishmat-certified Halakhic adviser. Originally from Chicago, Yardena has lived with her family in the pluralistic community of Tekoa, Israel for 32 years.
