The 17th of Tammuz and the Tamid

This week, we commemorate the Fast of Tammuz, when we are told about five tragedies which befell the Jewish people on this sad day.
One of those tragedies is the cessation of the daily sacrifice, the Tamid, which is also spoken about in Parashat Pinchas.
What is the connection between the daily sacrifice and the destruction of the Temple, the Beit Hamikdash, which we mourn at this time of year?
