I am often asked why I chose to lead tours. When I first came to Israel, I had trouble connecting to my religious studies. But I had no trouble connecting to Israel and I would follow tour guides around and memorize every word they said. I found the history, both ancient and modern, to be fascinating and often almost unbelievable. I learned stories and tidbits that I wanted to share with others. I developed a tremendous appreciation for who I am and for the people and land from which I came. I found that visitors to Israel may already like to tour or hike, but it is my goal that they will LOVE those same activities in Israel. It’s true that there are other mountains and beaches and archeology in the world, but in Israel, every site has a history that personally relates to us, every plant and animal has a story, even geology and geography has some meaning. When I realized that not everyone had the opportunity to see Israel the way I did. I felt as if I was given a gift and I wanted to share it with others. And, so, in 1989, I led my first youth tour of Israel (something I continued until 1997), which eventually to led to becoming a licensed tour guide. During my tours, I try very hard to, not only speak to the group, but to speak to each and every individual within the context of the tour and certainly in personal conversations as well. It is always my sincere hope that the love and awe I feel for Israel (again, historically and also in a modern sense) will be clear and transparent and contagious, and that the people on my tours will come away feeling a little bit of what I feel.
