Habayit Hayehudi Chairman, Minister Naftali Bennett, wrote an unprecedented letter to Prime Minister Netanyahu regarding the Committee for Equal Burden in Army Service. In his letter, he claims that the committee has violated coalition agreements regarding sanctions against Haredim who do not enlist.

As part of the coalition agreement, there were to be no criminal sanctions against those Haredim who do not enlist, as this was felt to undermine the purpose of the law. But the committee has included criminal sanctions in the bill.

Bennett continues to say that there are several legal opinions that have been presented to the committee which confirm that the purpose of the bill can still be attained even without criminal sanctions, and, instead, by a number of alternatives that have already been presented to the committee.

Bennett concluded his letter by asking the Prime Minister to hold an urgent meeting to create a bill whose wording will conform to the coalition agreement.
