In an amazing gesture, Israel and Germany have announces a joint
humanitarian project in developing countries, with a specific focus on
Africa.

The so-called “Africa Initiative” has been established in honor of 50 years
of diplomatic relations between the countries. As part of the project,
Israel has pledged almost $7 million in humanitarian relief from 2015-2020.

While the budget will be spread between the Prime Minster’s Office, the
Finance Ministry and the Foreign Ministry, the latter will be responsible
for much of the relief efforts. There will be a focus on developing Africa
in all areas, such as water management, public health, agriculture and
education of women.

In 2015 Israel and Germany will celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations,
and Israel has set aside about $1 million for the associated events planned
