Our Canadian branch based in Toronto recently appointed a new Executive Director, Rabbi Elan Mazer. Rabbi Mazer takes over from Rabbi Meir Rosenberg who recently retired after nearly a decade at the organization’s helm.

A native of Montreal, Rabbi Mazer made Aliya, served in the IDF, then studied and taught for several years at Jerusalem’s Yeshivat Hakotel. Three years ago he joined Bnei Akiva schools (Yeshivat Or Chaim and Ulpanot Orot Girls’ School) as “Mashgiach Ruchani” (spiritual advisor). Rabbi Mazer, now in his third year of shlichut, is married to Nomi and has three children.

“Rabbi Mazer is a brilliant educator and a very popular shaliach” according to Rabbi Dr. Seth Grauer, Rosh Yeshiva of Bnei Akiva Schools. “I cannot think of anyone currently living in Toronto who personifies the values and ideals of Religious Zionism more than Rav Elan.”

Those sentiments were echoed by long time National President of Mizrachi Canada, Jerry Rosenfield, who added, “we’re confident Rabbi Mazer will attract a younger demographic and deepen our community’s connections to the Torah the people and the land of Israel.”

Rav Doron Perez, Chief Executive of World Mizrachi, said that “Rabbi Mazer came to Israel to meet and strategize with us, and he left a major impression. I am really thrilled and think he is going to make a huge difference, and look forward to working closely with him.”

Upon his appointment, Rabbi Mazer said:

It is a privilege and an honor to be appointed as the new Director of Mizrachi Canada. I am very excited to be a part of the rejuvenation of an organization with such a rich history and purpose.

Even when planning for my Aliya, I always knew that the next step of my journey would be to return to North America to give back some of what I received from my shlichim in high school. I feel fortunate to have come to Toronto, where many strong Religious-Zionist organizations flourish throughout the community.

With this new opportunity, I am excited to take my shlichut to the next level and partner with the organization that started it all.

For decades, Mizrachi has been inspiring the world with the empowering message of Religious Zionism, forging strong partnerships between Jews across the world and in Israel, and helping to develop the realities of Torat Yisrael in Eretz Yisrael. Today, Mizrachi turns inwards with an eye on inspiring and calling to action the new generation of Religious Zionists in Canada.

I look forward to partnering with the different Religious Zionist organizations in the community, and I am excited about various events and programs that are in the works, and will bring Torat Eretz Yisrael to life in Canada.

Behatzlacha!
