Tens of thousands of religious school pupils gathered on Thursday for a mass prayer rally for the release of Jonathan Pollard, who has been imprisoned in the US for 29 years. The prayer rally was attended by Israel’s chief rabbis – Rishon Lezion Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef, and Chief Rabbi David Lau – and head of Religious Education Dr. Avraham Lifshitz.

The prayer rally took place in a Yeshiva high school in Givat Mordechai and was aired live to over 700 educational institutions across the country who joined the prayer rally via Skype. “Out of concern for our Jewish brother who worked for the people of Israel, the state religious education saw it fit to hold prayers to connect all the nation and give strength to Jonathan and his wife,” said Dr. Avraham Lifshitz, head of State Religious Education.

Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef said that in a month and a half he is will visit Pollard in prison, and try to help expedite the process of his release. The pupils also prayed for rains – which are severely lacking this year – and prayed for the speedy recovery of the two children, Michael and Yitzchak Gross, who were severely injured when poisoned in their home recently.
